IRC is a shorthand for Internet Relay Chat and is a protocol for sending text messages in real time to groups of users on the Internet. Users may connect to one of many distinct IRC networks. Each network has its own collection of channels which groups of users may congregate in to chat together with one another.
We like to provide an IRC channel because it can be quicker and easier to hold a detailed discussion with many people on IRC than on the forum.

To use IRC you may need to install some software. Usually this would be an IRC client, but it is also possible to get browser add-ons such as ChatZilla that support IRC. The table below lists some popular IRC software and which operating systems they support.
