Template

Templates are a way of consistently replicating the same features or information across many pages without the need for duplication. Detailed instructions on how to use each template should exist on each template page. Click the name of any template on this page to go to the template's page. Try to make use of templates in all instances where they are appropriate, such as using {{item}} to insert links to items. If you have created a new template then you may add it to this list.

This page should list all of the templates that you might need while editing articles for Atlantica Wiki. The template namespace always maintains the definitive list of all templates on the wiki. In addition, all templates should be categorized in the templates category, and usually one or more relevant subcategories.

Deletion[]

Only admins can delete articles, but any user can nominate an article for either deletion or speedy deletion, as appropriate, by including one of the following templates on a page.

  • {{delete}} − Insert at the top of a page to nominate it for deletion by placing it in the candidates for deletion category. A peer review held on the articles talk page will decide whether the delete should proceed.
  • {{speedydelete|<reason>}} − Insert at the top of a page to recommend it for immediate deletion without without peer review. Only suitable for obviously inappropriate material. Nominated pages will appear on the candidates for speedy deletion page.

Stubs[]

  • {{stub}} − Insert at the top of a page to mark it as a stub and place it in the article stubs category. It is only to be used on articles which need expanding. Do not use on empty pages or articles not in the main namespace.

Clear[]

{{clr}}, plus {{clrl}} and {{clrr}}

  • This template is used to reduce the amount of non-wikicode used on pages, replacing the code <br style="clear:both;" />. Its use should generally be avoided.
  • You can use {{clr}} instead of the HTML tag that clears space below things like images, pictures and tables, so the following stuff doesn't begin until the bottom of the image, picture or table box.
  • You can also use {{clrl}} or {{clrr}} to clear only left or right floats.

For[]

{{for|<name>|<link>}}

  • Use at the top of articles as a simple "for x see y" template.

Main article[]

{{main|<main article>}}

  • Use at the start of a section to link to the main article on it.

Right-aligned Table of Contents[]

{{tocright}}

  • This template floats the table of contents (toc) on the right. It should only be used when absolutely necessary, to keep consistent design.

Sandbox[]

{{sandbox}}

T is for template[]

{{t|<template>}}

  • This template allows you to show example template code (with a link to the templates) without using the template itself. It is used extensively on this page.

Welcome[]

{{welcIP}} and {{welcome}}

  • The first (with longer version "welcomeIP" for those of you who like typing more) is to welcome new non-vandalistic contributors who are "anonymous", identified only by their IP number; it encourages them to register.
  • The second template is for welcoming new registered users. Should be customized for the wiki, indicating the pages we most want newcomers to visit.
  • The above two templates are very suitable for having "subst:" prefixed, because they can be edited with additions or deletions appropriate to the apparent strengths of the person being welcomed; e.g. if the contributor has already demonstrated good wiki editing skills you could delete references to pages about "how to edit".
