Like a number of other things, the game is ambiguous when it comes to referring to either magic or skills and both are frequently used interchangeably to mean the same thing. In the pursuit of standardising terms on this wiki, I'd like to have one become the official term over the other. From what I can determine, it seems as though magic is the correct translation, but is sometimes still referred to as a skill because that is how the files for magic effects are code named. It also makes sense that characters can either use a physical attack or magic. It doesn't really make as much sense to say a physical attack or a skill. All the skills are in fact magic effects, that is, they are not something you could merely achieve by simply becoming more skilled. They are all magical. Therefore my preference is to drop the term skill in favour of magic. Thoughts? --BBilge 21:32, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

I favor the use of the term skill because I believe it is more widely used in game. At the least all the "magic" abilities are listed under "skills" in the menu. There there are the market traded items like "skill decrease book". Basically I believe as a player just starting the game "skill" would be the more obvious term to search for. I do certainly agree that the terms are interchangable and appreciate how nice it would be to have seprate terms for crafting skills and magic skills. Glaive! 17:24, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
You make a good point. I hope we can get some more responses before making a decision. --BBilge 17:29, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
