A Northern Viking is an upgraded (to class C) Viking (class D) mercenary.
After years at sea, the Viking has learned to endure the greatest assaults. With a swing of his mighty axe, he can hit up to 3 enemies in a row, and his Freezing Axe magic will freeze them in place.
You can have as many of this mercenary as you like.
The Viking is an excellent low level mercenary. He is the first merc you can get as a newly started Main Character that can disable a full row of enemy targets. He is also inexpensive to upgrade and skill.
Basic Attack Edit
- Melee Target and Neighbors
- Action Power: 50-65
- Action Power raised by Vacancy: 10% (up to 3 vacancies)
- The Viking can be recruited as a Northern Viking (upgraded Viking) via a Northern Viking Summon Marble (No Trade) that is received at the end of the Nest of Insects quest line. It requires Main Character level 32 to use. By using this orb, you will not need to do the Northern Viking upgrade quest line after the Viking hits level 100, saving you some gold and time (although I always found that quest line to be pretty fun).
- He can also recruited as a wandering mercenary at Main Character level 30. Depending on the main's level, it might be better to buy the summon orb from the Market than recruiting a wandering Viking.
If you want to stop your opponent's attacks with a massive wall of HP, you might want to choose a Viking. Their shortcoming is a lack of Magic Defense and low action speed.
Formation Tip: A Viking has high health and a decent physical defense which would make him an ideal front liner, but his largest and most noticeable weakness is his magic defense. He has the lowest magic defense of all characters in the game, and it shows especially in higher level areas. However his ability Freezing Axe makes him valuable. His freezing axe even though it will not work on bosses after bran castle dungeon is still very useful. If outnumbered freezing 3 enemies for about 2 turns can be a tide turner. However his weakness is his very low Action Power gain. Using a freezing axe ability can very easily prevent him from making another move for a few turns.

A strike of desperation while on the verge of death. The attack puts a strain on your Action Power, delaying your next turn.
Freeze an enemy for some time with a blast of ice from your axe.
